Gryt 1.15.0
The call sits beside your chat, you can share several windows at once, and you can bring your Discord DMs over.
Voice & video
- New
Clicking a voice channel opens the call beside the chat you were reading. A grip between them sizes the call, from one camera wide to the whole middle or hidden, and tiles fill the space with shares first, then cameras, then everyone else.
Share several windows at once. Each one gets its own quality and sound, a shared window only sends its own sound, and viewers get a Watch tile for each with its name and volume. Nothing is sent to them until they press Watch.
Mic, headset and camera have a small arrow beside them for picking devices, and the camera shows you a preview first. Camera quality adds Native and Custom.
Messages in the call's chat pop up as bubbles on the sender's tile. Hover one to reply, react or open it in the chat.
A fullscreen button, and a pop-out that puts the call in a small window of its own, which can stay on top of a game. With the call hidden, its controls sit in the rail and cameras show as small live dots in the channel list.
Your camera can center your face when it starts and keep checking every few seconds.
The experimental voice connection switch works right away, sends your voice once when everyone in the call is on it, and has a quality slider from 96 to 192 kbps. It needs server 1.12.2 or newer.
Chat
- New
Import your Discord DMs in a DM's side panel. Ask Discord for your data, drop the .zip in and pick the chat. Your side comes across encrypted with its files and original dates, and a receipt lists any files that didn't make it, so you can try them again.
Hover the time on an imported message to see when the server received it. Its date is what your package says.
Bold, italics, headings, lists, quotes and code show in the message box as you type, with a format bar when you select text. Web and email addresses turn into links.
Before a message with @everyone or @here goes out, Gryt tells you how many people it'll notify and waits for you to confirm.
Unread counts survive a restart and follow you to another device. It needs server 1.12.2 or newer.
In a DM, the side panel uses the card the other person made as its background, with search right under them.
When someone's key changes and you've checked it's really them, you can send them your copy of your conversation. Their app shows those messages as shared by you. A changed key also has "It's not them", and you can undo trusting one.
- Changed
A device of yours joins an encrypted DM by itself, even with your other devices closed, and a DM takes up to 100 of your devices instead of 5. A message you write before it's in waits and sends itself.
Pictures in a message are a square grid again, and the lightbox shows them at their own size.
- Fixed
Encrypted DMs that got stuck after a device was removed, or after every device in them was gone, work again.
The buttons for reacting and replying sit above a message again, so they don't cover its text or links.
Servers & invites
- Changed
Click the server's name to open its menu, with invites, notifications, channels, settings and leaving in groups of their own.
- Fixed
Error toasts say what happened in plain words, and joining tries once more by itself when the server's join challenge has gone stale.
Settings & app
- New
A new computer shows a code to scan. Point your phone's camera at it, check that four pictures match and tap Approve. The phone also gets a notification when a device asks.
On a Mac, Gryt keeps your key in iCloud Keychain, so a Mac on the same Apple ID as your iPhone gets it when you install Gryt.
Your devices has its own page in Settings. Your 24 words can be saved as a file or shown as a code to scan, and a device set up from them can bring your messages over from another of your devices.
- Changed
The message password is gone. Gryt no longer keeps a password-locked copy of your key on your account, since anyone who got hold of the server's database could keep guessing that password. A device that has your key removes the old copy by itself.
Only one of your own devices can change the key your account uses on a server. "Start fresh" is now "Lost everything?". Your new key takes over after 30 days, and until then any of your devices can stop it.
In a narrow window the member list folds to small faces, the channel list folds to icons, and below 820px the call is either full or hidden.
- Fixed
You stay signed in if the sign-in service is down when Gryt starts, and the Microsoft Store version no longer offers betas it can't install.
That’s everything in this release. When something lands that’s worth explaining, there’s a post about it.
