Gryt 1.9.8
The owl you designed on one server can be the one you have on all of them.
A small release with one thing in it worth having.
Use the same face everywhere
Settings already had a Sync button, which pushes your account's picture outward. This is the other direction, and it's the one people kept asking for.
If you designed an owl on one server, or uploaded a picture there, that's the one you want. Until now the only way to have it anywhere else was to design or upload it again on each server, one at a time. There's a button on that server now that copies it to the rest.
Owls and pictures are the same button. A designed owl is stored as a picture plus the string that draws it, so both go across the same way, wardrobe and all.
Your nickname stays where it is. Being called something different in different places is the point of a per-server name, and quietly renaming you on five servers is not what copying an avatar asked for.
The button only shows up when you're connected to more than one server and the one you're looking at has an avatar of its own, so it never offers to copy your account's default onto itself.
Under the hood
The Windows Store package now carries the identity the Store assigned rather than a guessed one, which is the part that had to be right before anything can be submitted. It still can't be installed by hand — an MSIX has to be signed, and for a Store app the Store is what signs it. The app says so plainly now instead of suggesting a way round it that doesn't work.
The short version
Avatars and images
- Copy the avatar you have on one server to every other server you're on
- Designed owls and uploaded pictures both work, and the owl keeps what it's wearing
- Your nickname on each server is left alone
- The button appears only where there's something to copy and somewhere to copy it to
Under the hood
- The Windows Store package carries its real identity, which submission needs
- The app stops suggesting a way to install the unsigned package that never worked
