Gryt 1.11.37

Threads keep their reply counts across a reload, and five things that were wrong with the thread panel are fixed. Hiding a conversation happens on your device now, and the server stops storing it. Messages get real headings and room to breathe, and unread and mention badges count what you'd count.

Voice & video

Fixed

Someone's camera could get stuck showing "Connecting video…" after their camera restarted mid-call, even though their video was already playing. It shows the video now.

Chat

Changed

Headings in a message render as real headings now, and the space between blocks scales with your chat text size instead of being fixed pixels, so a heavily formatted message doesn't turn into a grey wall. Long messages fold by line count instead of pixel height, and lists show their bullets again.

Hiding a conversation now happens on your device instead of the server, which no longer stores it. A Hidden section under Messages lists what you've hidden, with an Undo right after you hide something.

Fixed

Unread and mention counts were wrong after a reload: mentions could sit unseen with no badge to show it, and a reply inside a thread never added to its channel's count. The badge also showed whichever of the two numbers was bigger instead of the right one. All three are fixed.

A channel's reply counts now survive a reload. Before, every thread reset to "0 replies" until you reopened it.

Five bugs in the thread panel: deleting any thread in the channel closed whatever thread you had open, a thread you weren't allowed to read loaded forever instead of saying so, Escape inside the composer closed the whole panel instead of just the mention list or emoji picker, a thread opened at its oldest reply instead of its newest, and a failed reply lost its text. All five are fixed, and a failed reply now retries once before handing the text back to you.

A failed message send now puts your text back in the composer. Before, it only moved focus there and dropped what you'd written.

Servers & invites

Fixed

The add-server and settings buttons in the server rail had no name for a screen reader. They're named now.

A new channel briefly showed up twice in the sidebar before settling down. That flash is gone.

Settings & app

Changed

Group settings save as you go now, the same as everywhere else in Gryt. No more Save button for the picture, the name, or adding a member.

Fixed

The Audio and Notifications settings pages scrolled sideways at narrow widths. Fixed down to the 300px minimum Gryt supports.

The settings window could push its title and close button off screen on a short display. It fits the window you have now.

If your connection gave up retrying after fifteen attempts, it stayed down for the rest of the session. Bringing the app back to the front retries it now.

Self-hosting

Changed

The server built into the desktop app is updated to 1.10.21, which binds to your whole network by default in self-hosted bundles and includes a handful of smaller security fixes.

Nobody wrote this one up, so the list above is all of it. When something lands that’s worth explaining there’s a post about it instead.
